Parent visa numbers – Program year ended 30th June 2026

As is customary Australia’s Immigration Minister has capped the number of parent visas that can be granted by the Department of Home Affairs in the current program year ending on 30 June 2026.

In summary:

  • A maximum of 6,800 Contributory Parent visas can be granted between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026
  • A maximum of 1,700 non-Contributory Parent visas can be granted between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026

These are the same numbers as were available in the previous program year to 30 June 2025.

These numbers do not include subclass 870 Sponsored Parent Temporary visas.

We await details from Home Affairs of the number of visas that have been granted already, and will post a blog as soon as we have this information to hand.

Number of Parent Visas Granted – Program year to 30 June 2025

We have received details of the number of parent visas granted up to 30 June 2025 from the Department of Home Affairs.

  • Subclass 143, Contributory Parent – 6,619380 – 1,675
  • Subclass 173, Contributory Parent (Temporary) – 16748 – 96
  • Subclass 864, Contributory Aged Parent – 34242 – 234

Total non-Contributory Parent Visas granted in the year to 30 June 2025 = 1,713

The total number of parent visas granted for the year to 30 June 2025 – as discussed here – therefore exceeded the expected program total for 2024/25.

We have also been advised that the total number of subclass 870 visas granted in the 2024/25 program year was 3,189, with 275 x subclass 870 visa applications refused, and 127 x subclass 870 visa applications withdrawn.

The parent visa program numbers for the year to 30 June 2026 are awaited at the time of preparing this blog post.

This means there is scope for another 376 CP visa grants and 74 non-CP visa grants in the months of May and June 2025.

Separately, we have been advised that the number of subclass 870 visas granted in the current program year up to 30 April 2025 is 2,596, with 225 x subclass 870 visa applications refused.

This means there is scope for roughly 800 more CP visa grants and just over 420 non-CP visa grants to the end of June 2025.

Separately, we have been advised that the number of subclass 870 visas granted in the current program year up to 28 February 2025 is 2,044.

Parent visas – The number of visas granted to date

Following a Freedom of Information request we have received the following information from the Department of Home Affairs regarding the number of parent visas granted during the current program year through to the end of February 2024 – ie from 1 July 2023 to 29 Feb 2024.

  Number Granted Number Refused
Contributory Parent Visas (CPVs) 4,624 308
Non Contributory Parent Visas 1,231 203
Subclass 870, Sponsored Parent Temporary 2,672 70

The parent visa program planning level (which excludes subclass 870) for the year to 30 June 2024 is for 8,500 visa grants, so if this is to be achieved there are some 2,624 parent visas available for grant in the 4 months to the end of June 2024.

In recent years there has been a tendency for the number of parent visas granted during a program year to come in at a few hundred less than the planning level – watch this blog for the actual numbers for the full year in the coming months.
